Do Your Visualizations Motivate Decisions And Fearless Action?
Learn how to tell a better story through data literacy using elegant and informative charts.
Make a Difference, Not Dashboards™
When most professionals think about charts, tables, and other visualizations, they usually think of them as pretty ways to display data. While this is true in some cases, lacking a purpose to your visualizations is ignoring a huge opportunity.
Visuals can do so much more than just show viewers the numbers -- they can persuade viewers to inspire action and real change. In this course, I’m going to teach you my secrets from years in data analytics and visualization.
As a former Tableau customer and Tableau Partner since 2012, I have loads of practical experience across dozens of industries. Using my guidance, you can start creating visually-appealing, informative, and persuasive visualizations.
This course is for you if:
Learn to responsibly harness Tableau’s visualization power
The course includes real-world, practical examples, not theory, that help you create instant results. In this program you will learn how to apply the foundations of data literacy -- the structure of visual language, show people what they want to know, and unleash your full creativity.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or can whip up a chart in a few seconds, this course is for everyone. I say this because I’ve worked with all sorts of people, from data beginners to experts, and they all are missing similar concepts. That’s where this course comes in.

Help Yourself And Someone Else When You Enroll
It’s no secret that the world has gotten a little unpredictable lately. COVID-19 presents much more than a health crisis. Many people in my life who work with data are finding themselves without a job because of market disruptions and stay at home orders. To help them weather the storm, I’m giving back.
For every person that purchases an individual license to this course, I’ll offer a FREE license to anybody who has lost their job or has otherwise shown significant financial hardship due to the recent COVID-19 crisis. It's on the honor system -- they don't have to prove being out of work.
Or, when you purchase an individual license, you can gift one license. Just make your selection on the form and we'll give them all the information needed to sign up once you enroll. They'll be sure to thank you!

We’re Facing Unique Challenges and I’m Giving Back
If you have lost your job or suffered other financial hardship due to COVID-19, fill out this form to request a free license. We will let you know as soon as a matching purchase makes your FREE license available.

What’s Included in the Course
When you speak or write with words, your vocabulary allows you to communicate the same ideas in a variety of ways. In the visual world, knowing how to apply the core traits (e.g. size, color, gradient) lets you express a message with clarity to hold the reader's attention.
I’ve structured this course around a series of case studies that introduce you to core ideas and complex challenges. Along with the cases, I also include quizzes, presentations, games, and more, so you have a structurally-sound understanding of these concepts.
The course is broken down into four modules and it takes under four hours to complete the entire course. Break it down, take it all at once, it’s up to you! You have lifetime access to everything included.
In summary, this course includes:
- 4 Modules
- Case studies that explore new concepts and advanced problems
- Quizzes
- Challenges
- Free updates
- Lifetime access
What You Will Learn
Master the Hierarchy
Understand how people consume visual information and how to leverage it. Use elements like size, color, and gradient to influence.
Limit Distractions
Show viewers what they need to know and present clearer arguments by making some elements pop and other elements fade into the background.
Eliminate Crosstabs
Find it difficult to replace rows and columns of data because you aren't sure what options make sense? Our case-studies help you to build an arsenal against tables.
Get to the Point
Instead of selecting a visual that looks "cool or interesting," follow a step-by-step way to make your charts simpler to interpret and get your point across.

The Language of Visualization Modules
Below is a breakdown of the four modules found in this course
1
Module 1 : Connect with Your Audience
Each member of your audience has a brain with tremendous built-in processing power that automatically recognizes and interprets patterns. Understanding how to deliver your visuals "right into their brain" is a powerful thing and allows your work to have the greatest impact.
2
Module 2 : Case Study 1
Explore the ins-and-outs of how the Hierarchy of Five Traits works. Start using our step-by-step method to transform visuals to properly show data and make it as simple as possible instead of just looking cool. We’ll also show you how to get ready for your first round of Ninja.
3
Module 3 : Case Study 2
While the stacked bar chart is used commonly to condense information, in real-world analysis it's challenging to draw insights such as trends, changes in values, and comparisons. Dig deeper into the hierarchy and create an entirely new visual concept that makes insights easier to see and provides a greater depth of information.
4
Module 4 : Case Study 3
We've all been there… "How do I get rid of rows and columns?" The crosstab is so familiar, yet often delivers little value. Typically, the crosstab remains when you don't establish a proper replacement. In this final Case Study, explore ways to express relationships, and how to match dimensions and measures to the proper visual trait.
