Episode #9 Analytic Stories™

HAVE A HEALTHY DOSE OF SKEPTICISM ABOUT THE DATA

Michel Guillet believes skepticism is good. When something is too good or too right, having skepticism regarding whatever “it” is, is valuable. (9:07)

KEY POINTS

  • Have a healthy dose of skepticism about the data. Sometimes people compliment data without understanding it. Do they appreciate the data because it’s pretty or because it's valuable? (2:15)
  • You don’t always have to go for the big, deep analytical win. Go for opportunities with a quick win where you can highlight and build upon obvious things. (11:40)
  • Don’t assume people get “it.” You have an obligation and one shot with your customer to make sure they understand their data or they’re moving on. (22:46)
  • Every customer will say something different. Being able to take that feedback, good and bad, and create a clear path forward for the team can be challenging -- but is important. (24:50)
  • There is not a single source of ideas. Your entire team is a source of ideas and input to make things better from different perspectives. (25:40)

WHICH OF THESE IDEAS ARE YOU GOING TO WORK ON RIGHT AWAY?
