Emily Kund
Episode #12 Analytic Stories™

Emily Kund strongly believes that when communicating with clients, the opportunity to demonstrate your level of proficiency as an expert allows you to become a valuable asset to the organization. (25:50)

Emily highlighted several areas of communication to help you have more impact:

KEY POINTS

  • Perspective is important. See what you build through the lens of the customer and anticipate how they will interact and respond.  (4:25)
  • The more you have to explain something the less effective your data is. The more text you have to provide means your visualization is not effective.  (7:00)
  • Explaining the “why” to someone can be difficult, but matters. Why they don’t want to do this, why they should do that, and why something will really work can be awkward. Fully explaining the “why” provides accountability for what happens.  (10:03)
  • Learn what the objective is and figure out how your actions align with the objectives.  (16:03)
  • It’s easy to iterate something and not nail it. Strong communication skills play a key role in getting the information you need from someone, presenting information, and answering questions about the project.  (19:00)

WHICH OF THESE IDEAS ARE YOU GOING TO WORK ON RIGHT AWAY?
HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED A BREAKTHROUGH OF MAKING DATA MORE IMPACTFUL?

Helping people learn more is a core value for me. When it comes to data visualization, I enjoy teaching others so that they can create visualizations that help people make timely, well-informed decisions or ask relevant questions.

I also help entrepreneurs conduct market research through quizzes to help them learn more and convert community to clients.
